Practice in the app

Trachtenberg Kids: a times tables app built on the Trachtenberg method.

This website explains the method for anyone curious about mental calculation. Our current iPhone and iPad product is called Trachtenberg Kids; its lessons and presentation are designed for children and families. Here is what the app offers so you can decide whether it fits.

What happens in a lesson?

Each lesson reveals one multiplication trick with an animation, walks your child through it step by step with hints, then moves on to solo practice, free play and a 60-second Speed Round. Stars and streaks unlock the next trick.

Which times tables does it cover?

Rather than drilling facts alone, the app teaches a rule for each multiplier, so your child can work out an answer they have not memorised yet:

  • ×11 and ×12, using neighbouring digits
  • The halving family: ×5, ×6 and ×7
  • The complement family: ×9, ×8, ×4 and ×3
  • 2-digit multiplication in your head, left to right

Made for families

One family account holds a profile for each child, and progress syncs across devices. A grown-up area is protected by a parent PIN. There are no ads, no chat and no tracking.

What can you try before downloading?

Work through the ×11 guideand use the interactive ×11 example on the homepage. They show the underlying arithmetic without an account or subscription. If the rule clicks and you want more structured practice, the app provides a more guided route.

Devices, pricing and audience

The current App Store listing supports iPhone and iPad. It is free to download and the ×11 lesson is free; the other tricks are unlocked with a Premium subscription. Check the App Store for current prices and device requirements in your region before subscribing.

The app is family-focused. Adults looking for a general mental-math course should use this website’s open guides to assess the method first; we do not describe the current app as an adult-specific course or as “the best mental math app.”
